Fresh Fish, Flown in Daily

Fresh Fish, Flown in Daily
I'm holding on at 193lbs. I'm ok with that; I'm actually surprised I didn't go up in weight. I just spent four days with my grandparents and like many grandparents they like to feed visitors. It didn't help that compounded on top of the usual gluttony of the season, people had been brining my Grandmother food so she wouldn't have to cook. The last several days I was taunted as I walked from room to room in their house; four different flavors of fudge, double chocolate oatmeal cookies, pound cake, pecan pie (my Grandfather's favorite), etc.

It's amazing how easily one can lose weight when you have no say in the food you eat. A few years ago, one of our dogs was 50lbs. We finally put him on a diet when he was so fat it had to struggle to scratch his own ear. We changed his food (and we do not feed our dogs any human food). At first he didn't like it and would not eat it. He didn't eat for a few days and finally he got hungry enough he that he begin eating his new food. He eventually went on to lose 10lbs. He still eats the same food to this day and has no problems reaching his ear now.

10lbs doesn't seem like very much, but he only weighed 50lbs. To put that in perspective, if I were to achieve the same kind of weight loss, I would drop down to 154lbs. That's 39lbs!

We are our own worst enemies when it comes to this stuff. I'm convinced this wouldn't be an issue if I had some superior being providing all my dietary needs and did not get a choice in what I eat.

One Step Forward; Two Steps Back

192.8lbs., I’m pretty sure that’s what the scale said on Monday.

I can’t remember, but it didn’t go down. I know that much.

The news at the end of the week last week did not lend itself well to working out. I had planned to go running on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Friday was spent with the Yates family.

I can’t remember what I did on Saturday.

On Sunday I did do a six mile run with my friend/training partner.

Next week will be interesting with the holiday and travel. I will be spending a few days with my Grandparents and getting to spend some time with my Grandmother and maybe help lift her spirits.
I'll get another post up soon...

Dec 12th, Not So Good...

Hmmm, usually he just relays information from her to me if we talk or vice versa if I am talking to my mother. No good can come of this...

My mom informed me that my Grandmother has cancer. Still too early to assume the worst. She has beat it once before, but she was 15 years younger. She is going to see a specialist today.

The second phone call was from one of my best friends. We've known each other since high school. He still keep in touch, but not as often as we should so a phone call from him is usually a nice surprise.

Usually.

His father passed away on Dec. 11th. I last saw his father about year ago. He was healthy and enjoying life. I didn't know he was sick (not many did). My friend seemed to be handling it very well. His mom is having a very hard time. They were a couple that loved each other very much and it showed.

Terry Yates, you will be missed.

Making the Right Choices

As of Monday morning I've dropped 2.3lbs. I'm headed in the right direction. On Sunday I weighed in at 190.3lbs, but that was after a five mile run so most of that was water weight I had sweat out.

It's all a matter of making the choices, especially when it comes to meal time. I could choose to eat a burger or I could choose to eat some vegetable sushi. Both are filling and very tasty. One has lots of calories and fat. The other has significantly fewer calories and lots of nutrition.

Recently my workout routine hasn't been as consistent as it should be so the only other thing I can do is control my diet. One of the podcasts I listen to makes a good point:

Loose the diet drama. Anytime you are eating you are 'on' a diet. If you pig out on one meal, no big deal. You only have to wait until your next meal to get back on your diet. Its that easy.

Right now breakfast and lunch are easy. Breakfast generally consists of oatmeal and some fruit. Lunch is a little more difficult depending on if I go out with co-workers or work out. Dinner is the most difficult meal. I'm going to try and concentrate my efforts on doing better for dinner in the weeks to come.
